General safety overview
Violent crime targeting tourists is rare. Petty theft, like a bag left on a beach or a phone left in an unlocked car, is the more realistic risk. Local police are professional and English-speaking.
Safe areas vs less safe areas
Willemstad neighborhoods like Pietermaai, Scharloo, and Salinja are safe day and night. The whole western beach strip is safe. A couple of pockets in northern Otrobanda are worth avoiding after dark. Our houses sit in residential districts our team knows extremely well.
Nightlife safety tips
Stick with a housemate, use the group chat to share plans, and pre-book your ride home when going out late. Beach club areas are well-lit and busy. Never leave a phone or wallet on a table when you swim.
Common-sense travel advice
Lock the car, hide valuables, and take a photo of your passport before you land. That's most of it. Ask any NextWave resident and they'll tell you the same: the island feels much calmer than the average US city.
